Organic Chemistry Assignment Help: Mechanisms, Synthesis and Spectra

26 June 2026 · 6 min read · EduWriter

Organic chemistry assignments punish memorisation and reward a repeatable method. Whether the question is a mechanism, a synthesis route or a spectrum, the same disciplined process gets you to the answer.

Arrow pushing without guessing

  • Identify the nucleophile and electrophile first — mark lone pairs and partial charges.
  • Draw every arrow from electrons to the electron-poor site, never the reverse.
  • Track formal charge after each step; a charge that appears from nowhere is a wrong arrow.
  • Check that each intermediate is a species that can actually exist in the stated conditions.

Retrosynthesis: work backwards, then justify forwards

Disconnect at bonds you know how to make, name the synthons and reagent equivalents, then write the forward route with conditions and yields. Marks come from justification of each disconnection, not just a valid route.

Stereochemistry is where marks leak

State inversion, retention or racemisation explicitly and assign R/S at every stereocentre you create. Examiners look for the reasoning, not only the final wedge-dash drawing.

Reading spectra systematically

Take degrees of unsaturation from the molecular formula, then use IR for functional groups, ¹H NMR for environments, integration and coupling, and ¹³C for the carbon skeleton. Assemble the fragments last.
